The Kansas City Chiefs don’t look like the reigning Super Bowl champions right now.
Andy Reid’s team hasn’t had the same explosive and electrifying offense of old, mostly because of their lack of talent in the wide receiver room.
The Chiefs have still managed to put up the eighth-most total yards and eleventh-most points scored, but that’s far from their usual in the Patrick Mahomes era.
Outside of superstar TE Travis Kelce and WR Rashee Rice, the Chiefs simply don’t have a reliable pass-catcher on the receiving corps, and that has come back to haunt them all year long.
However, despite their recent woes, Mahomes recently stated that he has the utmost confidence in his receivers because he sees just how much hard work they put in every week:
“You just come into work and try to get better, that’s all you can do,” Mahomes said. “I think the guys have done a great job of trying to do that. We’re going to continue to get better. I thought we had a lot of great things in the last game, obviously just didn’t execute in the red zone. “I have a lot of trust in those guys. I see how hard they are working.”

Of course, it’s not like he’s going to say anything different, and it’s not like the Chiefs can do anything to solve those issues at this point in the season, but it’s still nice to see that their leader has their back.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling had a crucial drop against the Philadelphia Eagles, and the rest of the pass-catchers, including Kadarius Toney, have failed to step up throughout the course of the season.
But they will always be in the mix and considered a legitimate contender because they still have Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
Then again, it’s not like Mahomes can throw the football down the field and catch his own passes, so they need to step up.
