Patrick Mahomes is commonly viewed as one of if not the best quarterback in the NFL.
He has been a major reason for the Kansas City Chiefs‘ success lately and is the clear face of the franchise.
While Mahomes is an elite talent, he can certainly make mistakes, which he tends to hold himself accountable for.
This was put on full display in his postgame interview after the Chiefs’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Mahomes had an opportunity to put the Eagles away with a deep throw to Marquez Valdez-Scantling, who couldn’t haul it in.
When recanting this in the interview, Mahomes said, “I could probably throw it a little shorter, he was that open.”
“I have no regret … just didn’t come away with the ball. I could probably throw a little shorter — he was that open.”

Whether it was a drop by Valdez-Scantling or a true error by Mahomes, he was ready to take the brunt of the blame for this.
It might have been an unfortunate situation for everyone involved, but this will hopefully be something the Chiefs can learn from moving forward.
They still have Mahomes and Travis Kelce on their roster, two of the most dynamic players in the league.
As long as those two can continue to establish their on and off-field connection, the Chiefs should find themselves in another position to compete for the Super Bowl.
For now, the Chiefs will reflect upon this loss, learning from the potential errors they made throughout this game.
Valdez-Scantling’s drop was one of five for the game by the Chiefs, which seemed to be the team’s biggest problem, at least on offense.
