The Washington Commanders have made several personnel decisions in the offseason, hoping to give their team a much-needed boost in 2024.
After having one of the NFL’s worst records in 2023, many believe the Commanders have a lot of work to do if they want to be viewed as a contender next year.
They hired Dan Quinn as their head coach and shortly followed that up by hiring Kliff Kingsbury as their offensive coordinator.
Kingsbury might not have worked out as a longtime head coach for the Arizona Cardinals, but he does have a great history of developing young players, including Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech.
Mahomes seems to have great respect for Kingsbury, as he had a lot of positive comments to say about him in a recent conversation ahead of the Super Bowl, shared via Pro Football Talk.
“It’s someone who’s taught me a ton,” Mahomes said. “He got me, kind of out of high school, where I was a baseball player trying to play football. Basically, trying to be on my own.”

Mahomes indicates that Kingsbury saw something in him when he was a young athlete.
He recognized that Mahomes was a special player, and was intentional about investing in him and their relationship, which led to great things at Texas Tech.
Mahomes is seen as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, perhaps one of the best in league history.
The Commanders might not necessarily be able to find a player like that, but with Kingsbury on their staff, they might just be able to cultivate a winning culture again.
