The Baltimore Ravens‘ offense hasn’t quite taken off like some hoped it would in the offseason as offensive coordinator Todd Monken continues to figure out how to best use the weapons on the roster.
Monken was brought in to spruce up the offense and make it more pass-friendly, but so far the results have been underwhelming.
Lamar Jackson has shown a little more willingness to throw downfield, but for the most part his passes seem to be going closer toward the line of scrimmage.
Despite the lack of explosive plays, rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers has stood out as he’s been able to make the most of his targets.
Flowers is electric in the open field and has the wiggle and speed to make defenders look silly.
With the Ravens set to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5, Patrick Peterson couldn’t help but take a dig at Flowers via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.
“He’s very shifty, very, very fast. He can get behind the defense. He’s kind of like the guy that can do it all for him, run the screens, run the reverses, and still also run the big post as well. So it’s going to be fun trying to keep our eye on that fast, little munchkin there,” Patterson said.

Peters used to be one of the league’s lockdown cornerbacks and he could find himself on the wrong end of a Flowers play as the rookie likely won’t take kindly to being called a munchkin.
Flowers may be undersized, but there have been plenty of receivers like him who have had success at the professional level.
