It’s the dawn of a new era for the New England Patriots.
Jerod Mayo will pick up whatever’s left from the final years of the Bill Belichick era, and it’ll be up to him to get the team back on track to winning.
Still, as bad as the team looked during the past two years or so, the defense was solid for the most part, so that should be their building block going forward.
With that in mind, the Patriots didn’t hesitate to sign star S Kyle Dugger to a very lucrative four-year contract extension that could be worth up to $66 million with incentives.
That’s why fellow CB Isaiah Bolden took to Twitter to congratulate his teammate, praising him with a simple two-word message: ‘He’s him.’

Dugger is, indeed, him.
He’s one of the best ball-hawks in the game.
He has a great nose for the ball and can disrupt almost everything around him, and he’s the kind of playmaker any team would love to have on their roster.
The Patriots have countless issues all over the field, and it’ll be interesting to see how they manage to address all the glaring holes they have, especially on offense.
But even despite their struggles last season, their defense still managed to hold its ground more often than not, and Dugger had plenty to do with that.
He could end up being one of the all-time franchise greats if he keeps this pace up, and he should be worth every single penny of this new deal.
