The New England Patriots are entering a new era.
Bill Belichick is no longer calling the shots, and that’s going to be an odd sight for most fans.
Even so, they’ll give the team some sort of continuity by giving the reins to Jerod Mayo.
With that in mind, Patriots defender Davon Godchaux shared his thoughts on this decision.
He stated that Robert Kraft made the right call by giving Mayo the nod, adding that he couldn’t have chosen a better guy for the job (via Los Talks Pats).
Davon Godchaux on head coach Jerod Mayo and the new #Patriots regime:
“I got plenty faith that’s it’s gonna go in the right way. Big fan of Jerod Mayo — great guy, great leader… of course Bill Belichick is gonna be missed… the greatest coach of all time… but couldn’t give… pic.twitter.com/30kF5vYhEV

Godchaux raved about Mayo as a person and a leader, and how he thought their defense would continue to be solid and dominant with him at the helm.
Nonetheless, he also wants the fans to pump the brakes a little and be patient, as there’s still plenty of time before the start of the upcoming campaign.
More than that, it might take a while before the Patriots are back to their winning ways.
For starters, they’re the worst team in the AFC East division right now, and it’s not even close.
Their defense should continue to be good, but they need to bolster several positions on the offense.
The Patriots and their fans are used to competing at the highest level, which is why not even the legendary Bill Belichick got the benefit of the doubt any longer.
Hopefully, Kraft will be more patient with Mayo, as it’ll take some time to fix everything that’s currently wrong with this roster and this team.
