The New England Patriots are ready to start a new era.
With Bill Belichick no longer in town, some people speculated that they could look to give Mac Jones one final chance, but that might not be the case.
According to a report by Mark Daniels of MassLive, the team won’t pick up the fifth-year option for the former first-round pick, leaving the door open for a potential trade.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean they’re ready to move on from him; at least not right away.
The New York Giants did the same with Daniel Jones a couple of seasons ago and then signed him to a big contract after having a breakout year.
However, it seems like Jones would have to do wonders for him to get a new deal in Foxboro, especially considering the fact that they’re highly anticipated to take QB Drake Maye out of UNC with the No. 3 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Jones’ seemed to be broken at the end of the season.
Then again, there’s still a chance Jones could get another opportunity somewhere else.
He did show signs of promise in Alabama and in his first season with the Patriots.
His regression started as soon as they parted ways with Josh McDaniels, and Bill Belichick put him in the worst possible spot by not even giving him a traditional offensive coordinator or offensive play-caller.
