The New England Patriots have a new workhorse running back.
They signed Antonio Gibson to a three-year deal this offseason.
The 25-year-old had spent his entire career with the Washington Commanders since being taken in the third round out of Memphis back in 2020.
He wore No. 24 during his days with the Commanders, but he’s ready to kick off his Patriots tenure with a clean slate, switching to No. 21 (Via PGS Nest).

Gibson was a solid player for Ron Rivera.
Up to this day, he’s made 61 appearances, rushing for 2,643 yards and 22 touchdowns and averaging 4.1 yards per attempt.
He’s also hauled in 172 receptions for 1,283 yards and seven additional scores.
Gibson looked poised for a breakout after eclipsing the 1,000-yard plateau in his second season, but his rushing yards total dropped to half that in 2022 and just 265 yards last season.
He became more of a factor in the passing game, and he’s coming off posting career highs in receptions (48) and receiving yards (389) last season, so he should be expected to be the Patriots’ primary back on passing downs and the two-minute offense.
That means Rhamondre Stevenson should still be expected to be the team’s workhorse on early downs, and he was rather solid in that role last season despite the team’s offensive woes and subpar offensive line play.
