The New England Patriots have been the most successful team in the NFL over the last 20 years, according to their six Super Bowl titles.
Tom Brady’s dominance was a big part of this, but the Patriots worked hard to create a winning culture, having stars in many positions.
During Brady’s time, playing for the Patriots was an honor, and several players took pay cuts to stay with the team, knowing they had a better chance than most to win the Super Bowl.
While the Patriots are still a historic organization, the post-Brady days haven’t been as successful as the team had hoped.
As a result, it has been difficult for them to retain top talent, as is the case with Matthew Judon’s recent contract talks.
According to Marc Bertrand via NBC Sports Boston on Twitter, the Patriots and Judon are “not currently close” to a new contract.

Judon is reportedly looking for a lot more money than the Patriots are willing to offer, which Bertrand seemed confused by.
He mentioned that Judon can certainly be an elite defender when healthy, but the team might have some serious questions about his availability moving forward.
The best ability in the NFL is availability, and if Judon, a well-respected defender, isn’t available for several games this year, the Patriots’ investment might not be worth it, especially since they are trying to build the team around their 2024 first-round draft pick, Drake Maye.
The Patriots will look a lot different this year than they did in 2023.
Will they find a way to turn their new-look roster and schemes into legitimate results?
