In a shocking move by longtime team owner Mark Davis, the Las Vegas Raiders chose to part ways with head coach Josh McDaniels in dramatic fashion by firing him only hours after the buzzer had sounded on the NFL trade deadline.
Even though it seemed like the Raiders would be sellers at the trade deadline, with Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams drawing interest around the league, Davis chose to go in a different direction, and so far, it appears to be the right move.
The Raiders players were so invigorated by the firing of McDaniels and Antonio Pierce becoming the interim head coach that the team wiped the floor with the New York Giants last week and were seen smoking cigars in the locker room afterward.
Since McDaniels’ firing, there have been a lot of reports surfacing about how he poorly coached this team and was about as unlikable as it gets for a head coach in the NFL.
The latest report has an anonymous player calling McDaniels “clueless” and so bad at his job that no one in Las Vegas was having any fun, via Dov Kleiman.

Clearly, a change was desperately needed in Las Vegas, and even though it was a costly mistake for Davis, he was willing to bite the bullet in order to get his franchise back on track while keeping his star players happy.
The real question now is whether Pierce is the man for the job or if Davis and company will look elsewhere when the time comes.
