Months ago, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was making headlines for the way he stepped up to help Patrick Mahomes and the offense finish the season strong.
He looked poised to have a prominent role in Andy Reid’s offense for years to come.
Then, disaster struck.
Rice was arrested in April after being involved in a multiple-vehicle car crash in Dallas.
Just weeks later, he was a suspect in an alleged assault case at a Dallas nightclub.
That’s why, following a rather eventful offseason, the SMU product finally addressed the media.
The 24-year-old was taking part in a youth football camp in Kansas City alongside Skyy Moore, Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, Mecole Hardman, and Xavier Worthy, and he vowed to improve as a person and be more mature (Via ESPN):
“I’ve learned so much from that,” he said. “All I can do is mature and continue to grow from that. This is a step in a better direction for me.”
Rice has continued to partake in off-season practices with the team, and he claimed that his teammates have been quite supportive during these tough times:
“Accidents and stuff like that happen, but all you can do is move forward and walk around being the same person, try to be positive so that everybody can feel your love and your great energy,” he said.
This isn’t where you want to be just months after winning the Super Bowl.
He had a promising career ahead of him and could’ve been in line for a massive payday once his time came, and he’ll need to be on his best behavior from now on if he wants to turn the narrative around.
