The Baltimore Ravens continue to shake up their coaching staff in the wake of multiple departures.
Defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald left to be the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson left to become the defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans, and assistant head coach/defensive line coach Anthony Weaver is now the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins.
The Ravens already promoted inside linebackers coach Zach Orr to take Macdonald’s spot as defensive coordinator and now decided to promote defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach Chris Hewitt to assistant head coach, according to KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson.
#Ravens give defensive passing game coordinator-secondary coach Chris Hewitt additional title of assistant head coach, per league sources, after drawing interest from other #NFL teams, including #Dolphins, this hiring cycle. Now, Hewitt returns for his 10th season in Baltimore.

These moves are all about continuity for Baltimore after the defense finished No. 1 in the NFL in 2023.
Rather than try to replace their staffing holes with outside hires, head coach John Harbaugh is keeping his defensive group whole by just promoting their internal coaches.
This should, in theory, help Baltimore remain one of the better offensive units in the NFL.
It’s also essentially what Harbaugh has done pretty much every time a defensive coach left, dating all the way back to when Rex Ryan became the head coach of the New York Jets in 2009.
Harbaugh’s promotion decisions have worked out so far for the Ravens, who’ve had a top-10 defense for 12 of his 16 years at the helm.
Orr is the next man up, and Hewitt will provide a lot of coaching support to Harbaugh as assistant head coach.
