The Boston Red Sox have been heavily criticized for their subpar offseason.
The most recent person to take a jab at them was their own third baseman and franchise player, Rafael Devers.
They have multiple needs, but one of the most pressing ones is pitching.
They lost James Paxton and traded Chris Sale, so yes, they need quality arms.
Bringing in Lucas Giolito was a step in the right direction, but if they want to contend in the tough AL East, they will need to do better, much better.
According to Red Sox insider Rob Bradford, they remain very much interested in one of the top arms on the market.
However, they are waiting for the right conditions to go after him.
“The Red Sox are prioritizing Jordan Montgomery over other potential pitching additions, but are ‘waiting for the price to come down,’ per @bradfo,” B/R Walk-Off tweeted.

The price might or might not come down, but that is not a given; especially if it comes down to the extent that several contenders enter the sweepstakes again.
There is also a chance that the player, advised by his agent, refuses to sign until a suitable contract is presented to him.
The only thing clear is that the Red Sox are not the only team interested in Montgomery, who posted a 3.20 ERA between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers in the regular season.
He also dominated in the playoffs, with a 2.90 ERA in 31 frames.
He is a difference-maker and would fit right into the Red Sox’s rotation if they find the right conditions to bring him in.
