The New England Patriots have plenty of issues on the offensive side of the field.
Mac Jones is obviously getting most of the blame as the starting quarterback, but that’s both insufficient and unfair.
Granted that Jones has plenty of responsibility for his team’s shortcomings, but there’s only so much he can do with that offensive line and group of skill players.
According to Patriots insider Phil Perry, Jones simply doesn’t trust the group of players around him (via James Palmer).
“The reason why his eyes are down and he’s staring at the rush is because he doesn’t believe in the players that are out there around him.”

Regardless of what he tells the media, the film shows that plenty of Jones’ erratic play is due to the fact that he has no trust in his teammates at all.
Perry explained that the Pats have one of the worst offensive lines in the game by most metrics, so he doesn’t have enough time to go through his progressions or other reads.
More than that, his receivers are having major issues creating separation, which is why they’re facing more man coverage than any other team in the league.
On top of that, they’ve been unable to run the football, so Jones is pretty much trapped there.
Perry also states that there aren’t that many veterans in the locker room who actually believe that they can turn the season.
That means some of the players have already lost faith in the team after this slow start, and that’s almost impossible to come back from, even for the Patriots and Bill Belichick.
