No team in NFL history with Bill Belichick as their head coach has ever been as bad as the New England Patriots are this season.
With another loss on Sunday, Belichick’s Patriots now have a miserable 2-9 record, and they’re one of the worst teams in the entire league.
Recently, New England has been attempting to gain some sort of advantage over their opponents by not naming their starting quarterback until game time.
This strategy hasn’t worked yet for the Patriots this season, and former Buffalo Bills and New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan revealed why during an episode of ESPN’s “Get Up” on Monday (via Mike Kadlick on Twitter).
Rex Ryan with quite the message for #Patriots HC Bill Belichick this morning on @GetUpESPN:
“Please stop. Just name your dang starter. It doesn’t matter, they both stink.
Whether it’s Zappe, Pea Shooter Jones. We don’t care. They stink.
Just go ahead and save the drama. Like… pic.twitter.com/3mtUnAiLSq

In as nice of a way as he could possibly say it (well, okay, maybe not), Ryan basically said that it doesn’t matter at all who New England goes with as their starting quarterback moving forward because the team, overall, is just plain terrible this season.
One can imagine that Ryan probably enjoyed ripping into Belichick a bit on Monday after the Patriots made life miserable for the former head coach multiple times during his tenures with the Bills and Jets.
Unfortunately for New England fans, the former head coach is right.
The Patriots just aren’t a very good team this season, and Mac Jones or Bailey Zappe starting under center isn’t going to make much of a difference.
One of the few bright sides of New England’s struggles this year is the fact that they are currently in position to have a high draft selection in 2024, one that they could potentially use on a new quarterback.
