One of the more underrated moves over the week in the NFL Draft came in the fifth round when the New Orleans Saints drafted South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler.
This, along with the New York Jets’ fifth-round selection of Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis, was a really intriguing late-round quarterback move.
The former transfer in Rattler was a four-year college starter over his time at Oklahoma (2020-2021) and South Carolina (2022-2023).
ESPN analyst and former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III talked about on his YouTube channel how Rattler is a potential steal for New Orleans.
“He has the most gifted arm in the QB room,” Griffin tweeted on Monday.
The @Saints got a STEAL in the 5th round with QB Spencer Rattler. Day 1 he has the most gifted arm in the QB room and a great guy like @derekcarrqb to learn from. pic.twitter.com/tweR8ihNoH

With Derek Carr being a steady veteran to learn behind, Rattler is in a really good position with very little pressure.
Griffin is certainly right when talking about Rattler being a talented thrower of the football.
He threw for over 3,000 yards in three of his four years as a college starter and had over 10,000 career passing yards.
Being able to select a long-time college starter in the fifth round with an already-experienced, four-time Pro Bowl quarterback under center is a really smart move.
With Carr being 33 years of age and with New Orleans being a middle-of-the-pack team ever since Drew Brees retired, perhaps Rattler might be the future savior too.
As Griffin illustrates in his video, Rattler has a lot of the characteristics that make him a great developmental piece.
