After 24 successful years and six Super Bowl titles, the New England Patriots decided to part ways with head coach Bill Belichick.
Belichick’s time with the Patriots came into question during the 2023 NFL season as the team was woefully underperforming.
It felt like the locker room wasn’t responding to Belichick’s coaching style anymore and team owner Robert Kraft felt it was time for the two sides to part ways.
For a moment, it looked like Belichick would land quickly back on his feet as he interviewed for multiple head coaching positions.
Belichick was linked to teams like the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Commanders, but they opted to hire Raheem Morris and Dan Quinn, respectively, instead.
Belichick will now need to sit out the 2024 NFL season and Kraft wished his former head coach well via NESN.
“Well, he’s pretty special,” Kraft said on the MusiCares Gala red carpet, per FOX News. “We were lucky to have him for a quarter of a century. We only wish him well.”

Although Belichick is 71 years old, he still has the football acumen and expertise to lead an NFL football team.
It was surprising to see him get passed over for jobs, though the recent hiring trend skews on the younger side as teams look to find their long-term answers at head coach.
Hiring Belichick means that an organization is ready to go all-in for a title, and the head coach also needs to be picky about where his next stop is.
Belichick should get another opportunity in the future, though where the could be is an open question.
