Before he became the head coach of the New York Jets for the 2021 season, Robert Saleh had been the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers from 2017 to 2020.
He has brought a defensive mentality to the Jets, as they have fought to compete by mucking up games and holding opponents down defensively.
Saleh has been focusing more on what the Jets need to do offensively in order to become a good team, and he said that shifting his focus to the other side of the football has been a “natural evolution” for him, per Paul Andrew Esden Jr.
#Jets HC Robert Saleh went into a bit more detail in explaining why he has been more involved on the offensive side of the ball, ‘natural evolution.’

The big thing for New York’s offense will be the status and performance of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who tore his Achilles in Week 1 last year and is now 40 years of age.
He may or may not be able to play at his accustomed high level, but he will have plenty of weapons to help him out.
Wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall remain from last year’s team that went 7-10, but the Jets also added Mike Williams, who should give them an excellent No. 2 option at wideout, especially in the red zone.
But of course, it will likely be defense that will play an even bigger role in what New York accomplishes this fall and winter.
They have one of football’s great young cornerbacks in Sauce Gardner, as well as excellent linebackers in Jermaine Johnson II and Quincy Williams and a Pro Bowl defensive lineman in Quinnen Williams.
The hype is building once again for the Jets, but if they meet that hype, they could have an extended postseason run this winter.
