People are still talking about the offsides call made late in Sunday’s Kansas City Chiefs-Buffalo Bills game that negated a potential game-winning touchdown by the Chiefs’ Kadarius Toney.
Television replays showed that prior to the snap, Toney clearly had his foot on the line of scrimmage, meaning that the offside call was the correct one.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell commented that the call was indeed accurate, per Ian Rapoport.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell weighs in on the KC-BUF offsides call: “There was no question about that foul. … It was absolutely the correct call.”

Before the penalty was called, it looked like the Chiefs had worked their usual magic to win a close game.
Tight end Travis Kelce caught a pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, then threw a lateral to Toney, who ran the football into the end zone with 1:25 left in the fourth quarter.
Instead, it was a continuation of Kansas City’s ineptitude in crunch time this year, and Mahomes was livid afterward, something that is uncharacteristic of him.
Toney is one of a number of wideouts who have failed to come through in 2023 when the Chiefs have needed them to, and in addition to their lack of production, they have dropped a high number of passes, especially late in games.
In past seasons, they had Tyreek Hill at that position, and after Hill was traded prior to last season, JuJu Smith-Schuster gave them enough production in 2022 to allow them to win their second Super Bowl championship in four years.
Now, with an 8-5 record, the Chiefs could even be in danger of not finishing first in the AFC West, something their fans have taken for granted over the last several years.
