In the months leading up to the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, many draft experts agreed that Caleb Williams, out of the University of Southern California, was the best prospect in the draft and a potential superstar right out of the gate.
That said, Williams was a hot commodity in NFL circles, and the Chicago Bears had to make a choice regarding their quarterback situation because they had the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.
Although there was some speculation that the team might keep quarterback Justin Fields and trade the top pick in the draft for a second straight year, the Bears made the smart move and traded Fields to make way for Williams’ arrival.
If Williams lives up to expectations, he’ll be the first true franchise quarterback in Chicago and potentially the player who could lead them back to the Super Bowl, with general manager Ryan Poles believing the former Trojans star’s playmaking ability sets him apart, via SiriusXM NFL Radio.
“We thought the playmaking part separated him,” Poles said.

Although many believe that Williams is the real deal even before he takes his first snap in the NFL, no player in the league will have more pressure on them to succeed next season than this year’s No. 1 overall pick.
Even though the expectations will be high, Williams will have the talent around him in order to succeed in his rookie campaign, with the team’s receiving corps as talented as they come with Rome Odunze, Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, and Cole Kmet.
