After beginning the 2023 season with wins in each of their first two games, the New Orleans Saints came up short in their last two matchups, and they are currently sitting with a 2-2 record.
Things aren’t going to get much easier for the Saints on Sunday when they head out on the road for a Week 5 matchup against the New England Patriots.
Now, the Patriots are only 1-3 so far this season, but their defense has been one of the top units in the NFL this year (10th in points allowed per drive), and it could present some problems for New Orleans.
Luckily for the Saints, they are expected to have quarterback Derek Carr in the lineup on Sunday when they take on New England, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
#Saints QB Derek Carr, listed as questionable with a right shoulder injury, will play today, source said. He’s in a better place health-wise than last week after that AC joint sprain.

Carr has been dealing with a shoulder injury recently, but Rapoport also revealed that the quarterback’s injury has improved compared to last week.
Whether Carr’s shoulder is feeling better or not, one can expect the Patriots’ defense to bring the pressure on Sunday and try to hit the New Orleans quarterback as much as possible.
In a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, Carr’s shoulder injury seemed to have a significant impact on his performance, as he threw for just 127 yards, and none of his passes resulted in a touchdown for the Saints.
Will his injury be a big factor again for New Orleans on Sunday when they attempt to defeat New England?
It’s quite possible, and if it ends up limiting what Carr can do, the Saints might want to consider replacing him with backup quarterback Jameis Winston.
