The New York Giants could be in danger of losing a key player in the offseason.
Saquon Barkley felt disrespected throughout the contract negotiation process last offseason, especially after they agreed to sign Daniel Jones to such a big contract.
Of course, the Giants did what they had to do from a business standpoint, but he thought they would’ve and could’ve treated him differently.
That’s why now that he already has a year as a franchise-tagged player under his belt, he no longer pleads any allegiances to the Giants.
When asked about his future in the league, the Penn State product admitted that as much as he always dreamed of retiring as a Giant, being tagged made him understand the nature of the business he’s in (via Zion Olojede and Dov Kleiman).
“You go through the tag process, you realize how much of a business it is,” Barkley said.
#Giants Saquon Barkley thought he’d stay a Giant until he retired, but now he can see himself with a different team:
“So could I see myself in another uniform? Yeah, it’s possible.”

Barkley has been one of the best players on the team since he entered the league.
Then again, his injury-proneness and the reality of the market played against him in contract negotiations.
Now, his options could be limited.
Given his history of injuries, it’s highly unlikely that a team will look to take a big risk with him and sign him to a lengthy or big-money contract.
He’s one of the best running backs in the league, but that position’s value continues to plummet.
So, if he’s looking for money, the harsh truth is that he might get more by staying with the Giants and playing under the franchise tag again.
