The Philadelphia Eagles got a new star.
Saquon Barkley left the New York Giants to join his divisional rivals, and while some fans may never forgive him for this, they only have their team to blame.
More than that, the chance to go back home and play for a Super Bowl contender, all while getting the kind of big-money deal you were looking for, is something not many players would’ve passed on.
Barkley is one of the best running backs in the game, but just like everybody else, he’ll have to go through an adjustment period.
He’s getting to learn a new offense, play with new teammates, and just get the feel of his new team.
That’s why, when asked about his feelings during OTAs, he admitted that he felt “like a rookie” again, expressing his excitement for this next chapter of his career (via the Eagles).
“We’re all just coming in, buying in, trying to learn the playbook, learning the system, trying to get better each day. You know there is a lot of talent, a lot of talent before I got here. I feel I can only add to that. At the same time, you can’t look too far. That’s the beauty of it. That’s the beauty of coming in every single day, working with each other, pushing each other,” he said.
Barkley has never played with such a talented supporting cast.
While he’s clearly going to have a prominent role in the offense, he shouldn’t be asked to do most of the heavy lifting like in New York, and the quarterback upgrade is more than significant as well.
His ability to produce and put up big numbers has never been in question, but his proneness to get hurt often raised doubts about whether a team was going to be willing to give him a big-money type of deal.
Hopefully, he’s going to be able to stay on the field and prove the doubters wrong, and having him on a revenge tour with a chip on his shoulder is a scary thought for the rest of the league.
