Over the past several days, the NFL has been a self-proclaimed ‘feeding frenzy’ as dozens of players have moved teams in free agency.
This has caused a whirlwind of emotions for players and fans alike as teams have moved quickly to close deals.
Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants were one fanbase affected by this quick transition period.
Barkley signed a deal with the Giants’ rival Philadelphia Eagles, which has caused a lot of consternation among the fanbase.
While they loved Barkley when he was with their team, fans made it clear that they were frustrated with his decision to join a division rival.
After seeing this all play out and feeling many emotions himself, Barkley took to Twitter to post a sentiment to the Giants fanbase.
He indicated that he appreciated what Giants fans did for him throughout his career and also praised the front office for giving him a chance to shine.
“The fans in New York and New Jersey will forever hold a place in my heart. Ultimately, the NFL is a business, and I hope everyone can respect my decision,” Barkley said.

He also reiterated a sentiment shared over the past several days: “The NFL is a business,” especially during this time of year.
Barkley isn’t the only player to leave a team and a fanbase that was loyal to him throughout his career.
All bets are off during free agency, and while teams would like to retain the stars that have built their organization, that isn’t always possible.
The salary cap is a very real thing, and when running a cost-benefit analysis for Barkley, it doesn’t appear that the Giants could fit him into their budget over the next several years.
