After drafting quarterback Zach Wilson out of BYU with the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft a few years ago, the New York Jets thought they had their new franchise player to build around for the foreseeable future.
Unfortunately for New York, Wilson was never able to live up to expectations, which ultimately forced the team to acquire superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers before last season.
Ironically enough, after Rodgers suffered what turned out to be a season-ending Achilles injury, Wilson was given another shot to prove himself under center for the iconic franchise.
As expected, Wilson couldn’t get the job done under center for the Jets, leading to another disappointing end to the season, and the team ultimately shipped him to the Denver Broncos in a trade during this NFL offseason.
Although many feel that Wilson doesn’t have what it takes to be one of the best quarterbacks on the professional level, Jets star cornerback Sauce Gardner still has faith in his former teammate, as he believes the BYU product can still be a “top-tier NFL quarterback” at some point down the road, per the “Green Light” podcast with Chris Long (via Dov Kleiman).

If anyone on the Jets knows whether a quarterback has any talent, it would be a lockdown corner like Gardner, but it might be safe to assume that Wilson has played his last down as a starter in the league now that he’s in Denver.
Wilson will be battling it out with Jarrett Stidham and rookie Bo Nix to be the Broncos’ starter come Week 1, with the consensus being that the rookie out of the University of Oregon will get the job.
