The Seattle Seahawks have finished 9-8 two years in a row, and they’re hoping to take the next step next season.
While quarterback Geno Smith may not be exactly as great as he looked last season when he led the NFL in completion percentage, they do have a nice wide receiver duo in D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
On defense, they have a young group they’re high on, and they’re hoping to unlock the potential of that group by hiring Jeff Howard as their new defensive backs coach, per Tom Pelissero.
The #Seahawks have finalized the hire of Jeff Howard as defensive backs coach, per source.
Entering his 12th NFL season, Howard has coached the likes of Harrison Smith and Denzel Ward. Now he takes over development of a talented young group in Seattle.

Over the past decade or so, Howard has served in different capacities on the coaching staffs of the Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angeles Chargers.
In Minnesota, he helped safety Harrison Smith become a perennial Pro Bowler.
Howard will get to coach some young studs in Seattle, including cornerback Devon Witherspoon and safety Julian Love, both of whom made the Pro Bowl in 2023.
Witherspoon had 16 passes defended, eight tackles for loss and a pick-six this season, and Love contributed 10 passes defended and four interceptions while finishing second on the team in tackles.
Unfortunately for the Seahawks, the NFC West and the conference in general may be tougher next season.
