Over the past couple of years, the Seattle Seahawks have surprisingly gotten a lot of production out of veteran quarterback Geno Smith, who was considered to be a career backup for quite some time before getting the call by longtime head coach Pete Carroll to be the team’s starter under center.
After a Pro Bowl season in 2022, Smith did take a step back last season and showed that the Seahawks need to start looking for their quarterback of the future or at least a young player that can develop into the starter in Seattle.
That said, the team made a deal with the Washington Commanders earlier in the NFL offseason to acquire quarterback Sam Howell, who could compete for the starting job in Seattle next season or learn playing behind Smith.
Apparently, the Seahawks had some competition from a division rival when trying to trade for Howell, as the Los Angeles Rams also wanted to land him in a trade.
Fortunately for Seattle, the Seahawks were able to outbid the Rams in order to bring in the North Carolina product, according to Sports Illustrated via JPA Football.

Obviously, acquiring Howell is not considered to be a game-changing move for either team, but he could become a formidable starter in the years to come, which seemed to be the plan for both teams.
Although Howell had his shot as a starter in Washington, the former fifth-round draft pick failed to live up to expectations, which led to the trade with the Commanders having the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft with the intention of taking a quarterback.
