A weird and wild thing happened at the end of the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons game on Sunday.
The Saints lined up with a minute left in regulation in victory formation to kneel the ball and win the game but decided instead to score a meaningless touchdown with the game already in hand.
That decision was vilified by Falcons head coach Arthur Smith after the game when he confronted Saints head coach Dennis Allen, who later told reporters that the decision to score instead of end the game was on the players.
Backup quarterback Jameis Winston claimed responsibility for the call and said the players wanted running back Jamaal Williams to score his first touchdown of the season.
That didn’t sit right with ESPN analyst and former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe, who said Winston should be punished for his actions.
“I would cut Jameis Winston today,” Sharpe said on “First Take.” “I would not want him on my team. That’s loser’s mentality.”

Winston’s actions prompted many responses around the NFL: Some thought what the Saints did was disrespectful, while others found it wildly entertaining from a division rivalry perspective.
Either way, the touchdown had no effect on the outcome of the game or the Saints’ playoff chances – New Orleans won easily but did not get the help they needed.
