At one point during the prime of his career in the NFL, Shaun Alexander of the Seattle Seahawks was considered to be the cream of the crop in the league at the running back position, as he put up monster numbers year after year.
Unfortunately for Alexander, the superstar running back’s playing career was cut short due to injuries piling up, which resulted in the Crimson Tide product only playing for nine seasons.
Alexander’s career can only really be compared to that of Detroit Lions legend Barry Sanders in terms of being incredibly productive during about a decade’s worth of work on the NFL level.
However, Sanders stayed healthy during his 10 years in the league, which puts him in the running for being the best running back of all time—at least, that’s the general consensus when talking about the Hall of Famer.
Despite Alexander putting up incredible numbers during his short career in the NFL, he has yet to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame, leading Kay Adams of ESPN to ask him what he would tell voters about his candidacy to wear a gold jacket along with the likes of Sanders via Up & Adams.
“If you really talk about the 100 touchdowns and 9000 yards rushing, it was all done in about six years. Go find the greatest you want and say what did they do in six years?” Alexander said.

Alexander finished his career with 112 total touchdowns (12 receiving) and 10,973 yards from scrimmage, which is impressive, to say the least, and more than worthy of at least getting consideration to be a Hall of Famer.
Only time will tell if Alexander gets the nod and officially becomes immortalized as one of the greatest players in league history.
