Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield proved this past season why he was the No. 1 overall pick in 2018.
After two bad seasons – first with the Cleveland Browns and then this past season with the Carolina Panthers – Mayfield rebounded in a big way to lead the Buccaneers to the NFC South title and a wild card victory in his first season with the team.
Fox Sports NFL analyst Skip Bayless went so far as to call Mayfield “a revelation” after his 2023 performance and that the Buccaneers will likely extend him this offseason for his efforts.
“Baker Mayfield was a revelation this year,” Bayless said. “Baker Mayfield played extremely high-level football against Philadelphia and at Detroit. I can tell you for a fact the people in charge in Tampa are committed to Baker Mayfield.”

Mayfield’s worth will be one of the most interesting questions this offseason after how well he played this year following his bad stretch over his previous two seasons.
He showed off the traits and personality that led the Browns to take him No. 1 over players like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, even as his career hasn’t been nearly as successful as his draft classmates.
The Buccaneers will have a big decision to make about the future of their franchise if they plan to tie their immediate plans to Mayfield for 2024 and beyond.
But in a very winnable division, Mayfield could be the best quarterback that can help deliver another NFC South title for Tampa Bay in the post-Tom Brady era.
