D.C. United has officially announced the acquisition of skilled winger Fidel Barajas. The deal marks the return of Barajas to Major League Soccer (MLS), following a loan arrangement with Mexican football heavyweight, Chivas Guadalajara.
Barajas’ previous stint in the MLS was with Real Salt Lake, where he showcased his talent by notching two assists in 17 appearances, including five starts, in 2024. Known for his technical prowess, Barajas’ vision, impressive passing range, and outstanding dribbling skills were acknowledged by D.C. United’s general manager, Ally Mackay.
Mackay expressed his excitement over Barajas joining the team, emphasizing his potential to generate opportunities on the field. The general manager is also eager to see how Barajas will adapt and contribute to the team’s tactical approach under the guidance of Troy Lesesne.
Before his move to D.C. United, Barajas was part of Chivas Guadalajara, a prominent team in Mexico’s Liga MX. His transfer to Chivas from Real Salt Lake in July reportedly cost a hefty $4 million. Despite being part of Chivas only for a short period, Barajas managed to make seven appearances for the club.
D.C. United fans are now keenly anticipating how the talented winger will blend into Lesesne’s system and elevate the team’s performance. The club’s acquisition of Barajas reflects its commitment to strengthening the squad and making a powerful impact in the upcoming season of MLS.
