Bayern Munich’s president, Uli Hoeness, recently opened up about the club’s record-breaking acquisition of English football superstar, Harry Kane, for a staggering $126 million back in 2023. Under the spotlight, Hoeness shared his insights on whether the high-profile transfer paid off for the Bavarian giants.
Since his arrival at the Allianz Arena, Kane has proven himself to be a standout performer. His impressive tally of 73 goals and 22 assists in 77 games for Bayern Munich is a testament to his exceptional talent. This season alone, Kane has netted 29 goals and set up 10 more in just 32 appearances, spearheading Bayern’s attack with an exemplary performance.
Hoeness took the opportunity to discuss Kane’s worth relative to his record-breaking transfer fee in an interview with Kicker. He drew parallels between the Kane deal and previous high-profile signings that have graced the Bayern roster.
“Luca Toni, a world champion, Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben, Oliver Kahn, Giovane Elber, Bixente Lizarazu, and Manuel Neuer were all similar transfers to Kane’s,” said Hoeness. “Joshua Kimmich, who joined us at a young age, has also developed wonderfully. There are a few other names I could mention, but Harry is undoubtedly one of the big names.”
Hoeness further expressed his admiration for Kane’s character and abilities on and off the field. “He’s a fantastic player and a great personality. It reflects the stature of our club that individuals of his caliber find a home at FC Bayern. Despite being the most costly acquisition in the club’s history, he is worth every euro,” Hoeness added.
Currently, Bayern Munich is dominating the Bundesliga table, thanks in no small part to Harry Kane’s outstanding form. The team currently holds a commanding lead of eight points over the defending champions, Bayer Leverkusen.
In addition, the Bavarian giants have advanced to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 and are gearing up for an all-German showdown against Bayer Leverkusen.
