Speculation has been growing over the fitness status of Tottenham Hotspur’s rising star, Mikey Moore, following his conspicuous absence from the Premier League clash with Manchester City that ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Spurs. Moore’s unexpected omission from the lineup has sparked questions, with many wondering about the reasons behind the decision.
John Wenham, the owner of Lilywhite Rose, has weighed in on the matter, suggesting that Moore’s exclusion from the team was likely due to a minor injury rather than a strategic decision by the Spurs’ manager, Ange Postecoglou. This is plausible given that the 17-year-old prodigy had been a staple in four out of the last five games for Tottenham. His sudden absence, therefore, raised eyebrows, hinting at a potential setback.
While the injury is not believed to be serious, Tottenham and their supporters will undoubtedly be keen for Moore’s swift recovery, especially with an essential Europa League face-off with AZ Alkmaar on the horizon. The unavailability of Timo Werner for European competition means Moore could be a critical player in the upcoming knockout stages.
In a conversation with Tottenham News, Wenham was quoted saying, “I don’t think Moore will be feeling any type of way about being left out. He might have suffered a small knock because you’ve got to remember before the game against City, Moore had started four out of five. Therefore, it would be unusual if he was suddenly left out of the squad, and he hadn’t suffered an injury of some sort. As a result, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has suffered a small knock. However, I expect to see him return to the squad against AZ Alkmaar, because Timo Werner is of course now ineligible in the UEFA Europa League.”
Moore’s ascent in the world of football has been meteoric. He’s one of the most exciting talents to emerge from Tottenham’s academy in the recent past. His journey took a significant leap forward when he signed his first professional contract in August of the previous year, and he marked his European debut with a 3-0 triumph over Qarabağ FK in the Europa League in September.
The young winger’s talent has been on full display this season, as he has tallied two goals and four assists in his 18 appearances across all competitions. However, injuries and a virus that sidelined him for two months, causing him to miss 14 matches, have hampered his campaign.
As Tottenham continues to vie for the Europa League trophy, Moore’s return from the sidelines would undoubtedly be a significant boost. Manager Postecoglou will undoubtedly be eager to have the talented teenager available for the pivotal first leg against AZ Alkmaar.
