The New York Mets are 0-4 to open the 2024 season.
They aren’t last in the NL East because the 0-5 Miami Marlins have been even worse, but New York has been extremely disappointing in its own right.
As the offseason finished and teams entered the year, the consensus seemed to be that the Mets had a great offense with Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Jeff McNeil, Brandon Nimmo, J.D. Martinez, Francisco Alvarez, Starling Marte, and other top hitters.
Their pitching, especially with Kodai Senga injured, was more of a question mark.
Well, the season started and the scenario has been the complete opposite.
The Mets have the sixth-best ERA in baseball at 3.16, but have scored the fewest runs in the league at just eight in four games.
Mets insider Danny Abriano, who covers the team for SNY, has identified three struggling stars who have a lot to do with the recent negative streak.
“Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor, and Jeff McNeil are a combined 3-for-44 to start the season: Nimmo: 1-for-16, 1 BB; Lindor: 1-for-16, 2 BB; McNeil: 1-for-12, 0 BB. As ugly as things have looked over the first four games, Nimmo, Lindor, McNeil, and the rest of the offense is too good for this to continue much longer. But the approach has to change immediately,” SNY Mets tweeted.

Nimmo, Lindor, and McNeil are three of the best hitters on the Mets.
Nimmo is an on-base machine capable of finishing with OBPs near .400, has 15-20-homer power, and scores runs in bunches.
Lindor is a bona fide star, the highest-paid position player on the squad and the author of a 30-30 season in 2023.
McNeil is a former batting champion.
These are all excellent batters who are bound to wake up eventually.
However, as Abriano notes, they need to make the change happen.
They need to be active while looking for potential solutions.
Will the Mets win a game this week?
Fans are starting to lose patience and faith.
