The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a decision to make earlier in the season, and they failed to do it.
Star wide receiver Mike Evans gave them a deadline to work out a contract extension, stating that he wouldn’t even talk about that later in the season.
The team didn’t meet his terms.
Yet, unlike most modern stars, he didn’t request to be traded or threaten to hold out.
Instead, he went out there and balled out to prove to them what they could lose if they didn’t want to sign him to an extension.
He’s been one of the best wideouts in the game this season, proving that he’s still a physical force and a perennial mismatch that cannot be stopped in single coverage.
To put his dominance in context, PFF shared his numbers against single coverage, reporting that he currently leads the league in receiving yards (809), receiving touchdowns (9), explosive plays (23), and PFF Grade (94.1).
Evans continues to put up big numbers and seasons with 1,000+ receiving yards, regardless of who’s throwing him the football.

He’s done it with Jameis Winston, he’s done it with Tom Brady, he’s done it with Baker Mayfield, and he’s even done it with Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mike Glennon, and Josh McCown.
He might be overlooked and overrated, but we’re talking about one of the most consistent and efficient weapons in the recent history of the league, going for more than 1,000 yards in 10 straight seasons.
Now, the ball’s on their court, and his asking price may have gone up after such another impressive season.
