It seems as though Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett was able to avoid a serious injury during the team’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Pickett apparently suffered a high ankle sprain during the matchup, and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin revealed on Monday that the quarterback has already undergone surgery for his current injury.
Pittsburgh will also not be placing Pickett on injured reserve, however, he is expected to miss some time, so to help make up for his loss, the team has reportedly signed free-agent quarterback Trace McSorley to their practice squad, according to Adam Schefter on Twitter.

McSorley, who began his NFL career in 2019 after the Baltimore Ravens drafted him with a sixth-round pick, has already had stints with two other teams during the last year.
He began the 2023 offseason as a member of the New England Patriots, but he wound up getting cut when it came time for the team to construct their regular-season roster.
Then in October, McSorley signed with the Chicago Bears practice squad after Justin Fields suffered an injury, and he remained there until November 21.
During his career, he’s had stints with the Ravens, Patriots, Bears, Cardinals, and now the Steelers.
Since he was drafted in 2019, McSorley has appeared in a grand total of nine games, and he’s completed 51.6 percent of his passes for 502 yards, one touchdown, and five interceptions.
Obviously, his career numbers aren’t that great, but in the final quarter of the NFL season, there typically isn’t much to choose from when it comes to free-agent quarterbacks.
