The Pittsburgh Steelers had a decent season this year, going 10-7 and making the playoffs, but they have some real holes, starting at the quarterback position.
Kenny Pickett, a first-round draft pick in 2022, had another disappointing season, and after he suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 13, Mitchell Trubisky started the next two games for Pittsburgh.
But he didn’t play that well in either contest, and the team lost both of them.
On Monday, per Adam Schefter, the Steelers decided to let Trubisky go.
Steelers announced they have released QB Mitch Trubisky.

Trubisky was the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, and after he had put up 3,748 passing yards and 30 passing yards in his final season at the University of North Carolina, there was hope he would be the Bears’ franchise quarterback.
The Bears hadn’t had a truly great quarterback since Sid Luckman back in the 1940s, and although they had won the Super Bowl during the 1985 season, their fans had been suffering for almost their entire lives.
Trubisky had seven touchdowns and seven interceptions as a rookie, and the following season, he showed some promise, throwing for 3,223 yards and 24 touchdowns and making the Pro Bowl.
But he hasn’t quite been able to duplicate that type of production since, and he moved on to the Buffalo Bills for the 2021 season, and a year later, he joined Pittsburgh.
Trubisky will now be a free agent, and he could make a decent backup for a number of teams in a league that has seen a number of injuries to quarterbacks over the last couple of years.
