The Pittsburgh Steelers offense should look much more improved in the 2024 NFL season as they made some changes both on and off the field.
Pittsburgh brought in a pair of starting-level quarterbacks in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields who will battle for the starting spot in training camp.
Meanwhile, the Steelers also brought in Arthur Smith to be their new offensive coordinator after he was let go as the head coach for the Atlanta Falcons.
However, Pittsburgh will also have an opportunity to add an impact player in the 2024 NFL Draft as they’ve got the No. 20 overall selection.
At that point of the draft, the Steelers could go in a number of directions like offensive line or secondary, two areas they need help him.
However, it appears they could be looking to strengthen their quarterback room further as they’ve got a visit with Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. via Brady Henderson of ESPN.
“Penix told ESPN that he has pre-draft visits scheduled with the Giants, Atlanta Falcons, Las Vegas Raiders, Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers beginning next week.”
It’s interesting that Pittsburgh is meeting with Penix given they already have Wilson and Fields on the roster, though perhaps it’s just them doing their due diligence.
Penix’s draft projection is somewhere in the first or second round, though it seems likely that a team will try to gamble on him early because of his leadership skills and deep ball ability.
His injury history is concerning, but a team like the Steelers likely sees the potential in the young quarterback.
