The Dallas Cowboys just lost a rough 31-10 game to the Buffalo Bills in Week 15 to drop their record to 10-4.
Dallas detractors then came out in droves after the loss to decry the Cowboys, much to the chagrin of Micah Parsons.
The Cowboys pass rusher noted Monday on his podcast that he believes “everyone just waits for the Cowboys to lose” because of how popular the team is in the league.
That comment didn’t sit well with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.
The television personality went off on Parsons during a “First Take” segment Tuesday where Smith explained why everyone always talks about the Cowboys after a loss.
“If you want to sit up there and literally whine about how you cannot understand how people are rooting against you, why are you profiting off of them?” Smith said. “… It’s marketing, man. The Dallas Cowboys – there’s no indifference, there’s no apathy. You either love them or you hate them.”
Such is the burden of playing for “America’s Team” and one of the most valuable sports franchises in the world, according to Forbes.
That attention from fans and the media is a big reason why the Cowboys remain so profitable.
As Smith said in the segment, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones loves it when everyone is talking about his team because it continues to stir interest in them – positively or negatively.
The Cowboys aren’t even in a bad state this year, either: At 10-4, Dallas is very much still in contention for the the NFC East and even the No. 1 seed in the conference.
