The San Francisco 49ers were on the wrong end of the big game just four years ago.
A lot has transpired ever since then, and they’re a much better team than they were at that point, but that heartbreak is still there.
That’s why Stephen A. Smith believes Kyle Shanahan will be the biggest storyline of the Super Bowl.
Talking on “First Take,” the pundit claimed that Shanahan simply cannot afford to go empty-handed again, stating that he must close the deal.
Smith raved about Shanahan as an offensive mind and offensive coordinator, going as far as to say that everybody knows that he’s the one running the organization, not GM John Lynch.
“You have to close the deal,” Smith said.

He made it loud and clear that he meant no disrespect to Shanahan, but it’s just a fact that he’s knocked on the door way too many times without results.
Under Shanahan, the Niners have become one of the strongest powerhouses not only in the NFC but also in the entire league.
Truth be told, there should be no excuse for the Niners not to take care of business right now.
This team has the most talent of any team around the league, and while the Kansas City Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champions and have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, they have more than enough resources to get the deal done.
More than that, the narrative around Shanahan could change forever if he fails to get the monkey off his back this season.
