Former NFL wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. has established a second career as the authority on all wide receiver prospects after so many of his pre-draft takes have aged beautifully, most notably when he said that Cooper Kupp was the best receiver in his class despite getting selected in the third round out of Eastern Washington.
Smith gave plenty of honest assessments of many receivers in the 2024 class, and he is not a fan of a certain late-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Florida State wide receiver Johnny Wilson was selected in the 6th round by the Eagles and is a hulking 6’7″ and 237 pounds was the victim of Smith’s criticism, as Smith said he was “not a good multitasker” and that he “can’t chew gum and tie his shoe at the same time.”

Smith also called out his fellow draft evaluators who labeled Wilson a freak due to his size but pushed back on that notion.
Wilson was drafted more on his size and potential than he was based on his production in college, as he had just 41 catches for 617 yards and two touchdowns last season as a Seminole.
The previous year was his best work, as he put up 43 catches for 897 yards and five touchdowns.
His path to playing time is going to be an uphill battle, as the Eagles already gave wideouts A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith long-term extensions this offseason, while also bringing in DeVante Parker and Parris Campbell in free agency.
