There are no secrets and precious few surprises in the NFL.
Good teams that achieve success and reach the postseason know they may have snuck up on some opponents at the outset, but that advantage quickly fades.
For the Houston Texans, their 2024 schedule is filled with teams who recognize their impressive 2023 turnaround and seek to ensure that it is not replicated this fall at their expense.
“Around The NFL” noted Texans wide receiver Tank Dell acknowledged this reality, telling reporters that “we know we have a target on our back.”

After all, just how much respect is a three-win team with a new head coach and a rookie quarterback going to command the following year?
But Houston flipped the script as rookie head coach DeMeco Ryans and No. 2 overall selection C.J. Stroud quickly grew into their new roles.
After occupying the AFC South cellar, the Texans qualified for the playoffs and blasted Cleveland before losing to No. 1 seed Baltimore.
The element of surprise, which rarely exists in today’s NFL, is completely gone.
Instead, the team faces high expectations that it’s rivals will use every weekend to motivate the troops and derail Houston’s lofty ambitions.
But for Dell, this is a quest he will gladly accept.
He declared that the Texans were ready and excited for the future, which would see them with targets on their backs.
Under Ryans and Stroud, Dell proclaimed that the team’s goals were nothing short of a return trip to the playoffs and advancing to the Super Bowl.
No one will be surprised.
