The Chase Center, renowned as the turf where champions are made and legends born, is set to break new ground. The illustrious home of the Golden State Warriors will host its first-ever Laver Cup, from September 19-21, 2025. The anticipation is palpable as the city of San Francisco, famed for its iconic landmarks, prepares to welcome the giants of the tennis world, including Ben Shelton.
Shelton, currently ranked 13th in the world, is no stranger to the Laver Cup, preparing for his third appearance in the event. The 20-year old tennis star is eager to mark his territory on the same floor where Stephen Curry and his seven-time NBA Champion Warriors have awed fans. The intersection of these two sports has already started ringing bells in the sporting world.
Expressing his excitement about the upcoming event, Shelton said, “I think it’ll be a pretty cool atmosphere in San Francisco and we are pumped and super motivated to win back the Laver Cup!” The young American tennis star, who recently made headlines as the 2025 Australian Open semifinalist, is set to represent Team World against Team Europe in this year’s Laver Cup.
Stephen Curry, the four-time NBA champion whose name is synonymous with the Golden State Warriors, welcomed Shelton with a special message. With genuine excitement, Stephen Curry said, “Yo, what’s up Ben? Heard we’re going to see you at Chase Center out in the bay for the Laver Cup. And you know I only got one thing to say about that…”
To the delight of many, Curry ended his message by imitating Shelton’s well-known ‘dialed-in’ celebration, an act that involves mimicking talking on a phone. This celebration became a signature move for Shelton in 2023, after a thrilling quarterfinal win over Frances Tiafoe at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Returning the favor, Shelton responded by copying Curry’s famous ‘night night’ celebration, stating, “What’s up Steph? That’s right. I’ll start prepping my move for September.”
Shelton’s rapid rise in the world of tennis has been impressive. In the 2025 Australian Open, he became the youngest American to reach the semifinals since Andy Roddick in 2003. Despite losing to the world No.1 Jannik Sinner, Shelton saw his ranking skyrocket from the 20th spot to 14th and now currently sits at the 13th position.
Despite the defeat, Shelton remained unfazed, stating in a press conference, “Obviously you’re playing the No.1 player in the world, the chances and the windows are always small. But I know I’m close. I know my level’s close. I certainly believe in myself.”
Team World’s captain Andre Agassi, a tennis legend himself, has high expectations for Shelton. After it was confirmed that Shelton would join his team at the Laver Cup, Agassi praised the young player’s explosive talent and how he thrives in a team environment.
As the Laver Cup approaches, excitement builds, and the stakes get higher. With San Francisco set to host its inaugural Laver Cup, all eyes are on Ben Shelton, the rising star of the tennis world, as he prepares to take center stage at the iconic Chase Center.
