Morgan Riddle, the better half of tennis star Taylor Fritz, has alleged that she has been ostracized within the tennis WAG community due to her social media activities. Riddle, 27, began to document Fritz’s career on social media platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok around two years ago, soon after they started dating in 2020. Her posts quickly gained traction, and she amassed a substantial following.
However, her prominence on social media has not been without controversy. Riddle has faced criticism from some quarters, who accuse her of being opportunistic and of lacking substantial knowledge about tennis. This criticism was exacerbated when she controversially suggested in 2022 that tennis was “relatively uncool and unknown in America”.
Riddle’s social media presence has also ruffled feathers among her fellow WAGs. She asserts that an “older wives clique” shared her videos in a private WhatsApp group to mock her. While discussing this on The Squeeze podcast, she said, “There’s a long-standing tradition of wives and partners on the tennis tour maintaining a low profile, quietly supporting their partners from the box, without seeking public attention. When I started posting my first TikToks, I heard from some people on the tour that a group of elder wives were circulating my videos in their private chat, using them to make fun of me.”
Riddle has faced considerable backlash from both the tennis community and fans for her unorthodox approach to her role as a tennis WAG. She says people expected her to simply applaud from the box and not exploit her partner’s career for personal gain. However, she has defiantly rejected such expectations, choosing to share openly about her life with Fritz.
Fritz and Riddle, often compared to ‘Posh and Becks’ of the tennis world, began their relationship after matching on the celebrity dating app Raya during the initial Covid-19 lockdown. For their first date, Fritz invited Riddle to his home since bars and restaurants were closed due to the pandemic. Riddle selected a rather unusual choice for their first movie together: the unsettling horror film, Midsommar. Reflecting on this, she admitted that her choice may have been a bit traumatic for Fritz.
Fritz, currently ranked third globally, is yet to secure his first Grand Slam victory. His closest shot was at the US Open in September last year, where he made it to the final but lost to Jannik Sinner. Previously, his best performance at a major was reaching the quarter-finals, which he’s accomplished four times.
2025 has been a lackluster year for Fritz, having won just six of his last ten matches. He was eliminated in the third round of the Australian Open in January, and recently, he was defeated by Britain’s No.1, Jack Draper, in the fourth round at Indian Wells.
