New revelations have emerged concerning the disturbing stalking incident involving British tennis star Emma Raducanu. Roman Kelecic, Raducanu’s part-time coach, has provided chilling insights into the persistent harassment the young sportswoman faced, revealing that her stalker meticulously followed her across four tournaments, lying in wait for an opportune moment to approach her.
The harrowing ordeal came to light when Raducanu, 22, broke down in tears during her second-round Dubai match against Karolina Muchova. A spectator was subsequently escorted out of the stadium. It was later revealed that this individual had not only made contact with Raducanu the previous day but also had a letter for her.
Kelecic, who coached Raducanu during her formative years and also accompanied her during some of her recent tournaments following the departure of Nick Cavaday from her team, disclosed that the incident involved more than just a letter. The coach provided a detailed account of the unnerving episode that left Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, deeply distressed.
Kelecic recounted how Raducanu, upon leaving her hotel room for dinner at a restaurant near the tournament site, was accosted by a man who began to photograph her, embrace her and engage in a manner that left her extremely uncomfortable. The stalker promptly left once Raducanu alerted her team members and they arrived on the scene.
Shockingly, Kelecic disclosed that the stalker’s approach was calculated and premeditated. “The man was assessing the situation, waiting for the best moment to approach her. His strategy, which was terrifying, was meticulously planned. He had thought everything through,” Kelecic shared with the local publication net.hr.
Kelecic further revealed that Raducanu had spotted the same man in Singapore, Abu Dhabi, and Doha. “It’s terrifying how much he had thought about it all and planned it,” Kelecic added, emphasizing that their immediate response was to report the incident for Raducanu’s safety.
In an alarming turn of events, the stalker was issued a restraining order by the Dubai police but avoided legal charges after Raducanu decided not to pursue them. These unsettling revelations underline the persistent and often overlooked threats faced by public figures, and the urgent need for robust protective measures.
