Coppini Tennis Academy is celebrating the rise of a new sensation, 17-year-old Abigayel Vosloo, who recently chalked up her third professional victory. Displaying an impressive performance, Vosloo bested her 23-year-old opponent, Elena Jamshidi, in Pretoria last week. This victory marks her second consecutive professional win in as many weeks and has rewarded her with a wild card entry into the upcoming W15 event.
Despite a challenging start, Vosloo staged a remarkable comeback against the more seasoned Jamshidi. The opening set saw the young South African trailing 1-6, but she quickly regained her momentum, seizing the next two sets 6-2 and 6-3, respectively. The match, which stretched over two hours, culminated in Vosloo’s triumph, validating her growing reputation in the tennis world.
The match was a memorable spectacle of tenacity and grit, with Vosloo securing six points more than her Danish adversary. Both players traded six breaks each, but it was Vosloo’s decisive return games at crucial junctures that tipped the scales in her favor. Jamshidi started the match in full swing, seizing three consecutive breaks to establish a daunting 5-0 lead.
However, Vosloo proved her mettle, breaking Jamshidi’s momentum in the sixth game. Despite losing her service game at 1-5, the resilient teenager bounced back in the second set, marking a turning point in the match.
Showing her prowess, Vosloo kicked off the second set with a 16-4 run, amassing a 4-0 lead that boosted her confidence. Jamshidi managed to stave off a break point in the fifth game, ending her losing streak. However, the young South African remained undeterred and held her serve in the ensuing game to gain a commanding 5-1 lead.
Serving at 5-2, Vosloo had to dig deep to secure the set. She fended off six break points and seized the fourth set points, thus securing the set 6-2 and forcing a decider. The third set started with Vosloo breaking Jamshidi’s serve and holding her own for a 2-0 lead.
Jamshidi experienced another setback in the fifth game, falling 4-1 behind. Despite a brief resurgence in the sixth game, Vosloo remained focused and broke her opponent’s serve again in the seventh game, pulling ahead 5-2. Serving for the game in the eighth round, Vosloo stumbled slightly but recovered promptly, clinching another break at 5-3, thus advancing to the second round.
Abigayel Vosloo’s recent victory is a testament to her growing prowess and potential. As she continues to make waves in the professional tennis circuit, the Coppini Tennis Academy can look forward to more triumphant moments from this rising star.
