Roger Federer reveals stylish wardrobe choices for his father igniting Uniqlo campaign after pocketing over $90M from the brand deal.
Roger Federer is an extraordinarily wealthy man, and his Uniqlo Ambassadorship has only added to his fortune. Retiring from the sport in 2022 following the Laver Cup, the Swiss Maestro has become a regular promoter of the Japanese clothing label. In a recent appearance on the brand’s social media, he shared his apparel recommendations for his father.
Federer, a 20-time major winner, is not only a tennis legend but also a marketing powerhouse. Despite not participating in any tour-level events in recent years, he managed to earn a staggering $90.7 million in pre-tax gross earnings, according to Forbes. His off-court persona remains in high demand, and his partnership with Uniqlo has proven mutually beneficial for both parties.
During his appearance on Uniqlo and Uniqlo Ambassadors’ Instagram handle, Federer showcased several relaxed poses while discussing his father’s wardrobe choices. In a recorded video, he recommended various clothing items that his 78-year-old father, Robert Federer, would appreciate. “I would recommend it to my Dad, you know, he’s 80 years old – he could wear a jacket like this, no problem. The t-shirt, I think he could do as well. The combo, I’m not sure, but he’s a cool guy,” Federer shared.
Not only did Federer provide wardrobe suggestions for his father, but he also reserved a few outfit ideas for his identical twin sons, Leo and Lenny. “I would recommend it to my boys, you know, because they play golf, tennis, and they go to school. They want to have something that is also very comfortable,” he added.
Uniqlo is not the only lucrative sponsor in Federer’s portfolio. He also enjoys partnerships with brands like Rolex, ‘On Running’ (where he holds a 3% $180 million stake), and Mercedes.
In 2018, Federer made a momentous decision to switch from Nike to Uniqlo after a 24-year partnership with the sporting giant. Since signing his 10-year $300 million contract with the Japanese company, Federer’s custom ‘RF’ signature tennis-wear collection has received immense promotion. Nike’s former tennis director praised Federer for his unparalleled contributions to the sporting world.
Mike Nakajima, the former director, summed up Federer’s tennis greatness in his book ‘The Roger Federer Effect.’ “He’s such a savvy guy; if you’re a company, who wouldn’t want somebody like Roger working with you? I think he’ll branch out into other things. And his name will live on forever as one of the best athletes of all time,” Nakajima wrote.
Since retiring, Federer has made the most of his savvy lifestyle by touring the world and attending several top-tier ATP events. Last year, he made a comeback at the Rolex Shanghai Masters for a mixed doubles exhibition event. He also spectated Jannik Sinner’s summit clash against Novak Djokovic, alongside Carlos Alcaraz.
Fans can only hope that the 43-year-old legend returns to the tour for friendly on-court showdowns and provides his critical insight into the sport’s top talents and shortcomings.
