Coco Gauff, the American tennis sensation, turned heads at her red carpet debut at the 2025 Oscars. With a distinct affinity for fashion and a penchant for online shopping, much like other teenagers, Gauff was the epitome of elegance at the prestigious event held on Sunday, March 2. The young prodigy, who is set to compete in the Indian Wells Masters the following week, was accompanied by her mother, Candi, an ardent supporter and the 2023 US Open champion.
Adorning a radiant tennis-yellow gown, Gauff graced the red carpet outside Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. The World No. 3 tennis player complimented her attire with diamond jewelry and a hairstyle that featured braids and a messy bun. Candi, on the other hand, opted for a silver gown and a glittering bracelet. The mother-daughter duo posed for photographs, adding to the glamour of the Hollywood night.
Gauff’s wardrobe selection had been a topic of discussion even before she set foot on the carpet. The 20-year-old tennis ace gave her fans a sneak peek at her look through a series of photographs on Instagram, captioned “Moments before arriving at the #oscars.” Candi responded to her daughter’s post with a string of red heart emojis, showcasing her pride and support. Gauff’s stunning outfit did not go unnoticed as she received numerous compliments from the tennis fraternity as well.
The dynamic duo is known for their stylish appearances. In February, Coco and Candi attended the Qatar TotalEnergies Open players’ party, capturing the attention of the paparazzi with their exquisite attire.
Following her glamorous night at the Oscars, Gauff is set to return to the tennis court. However, before leaving the limelight, she expressed her desire to be perceived as “more than just a tennis player,” a sentiment that resonated well given her mingling with the Hollywood elite.
In a conversation with American TV host Kevin Frazier and correspondent Nichelle Turner, Gauff admitted that she typically avoids high-profile Hollywood events due to anxiety. She expressed her desire to branch out beyond tennis and explore other avenues. Despite being accustomed to performing in packed stadiums, Gauff confessed that navigating the world of Hollywood, with its differing rules, is a new experience for her.
“I’m usually the one who says no to these things because I get anxiety really bad, but I’m just happy to be here. I wanna be more than just a tennis player and step into other worlds,” Gauff shared.
Looking ahead, Gauff is focused on improving her performance at Indian Wells. Last year, she was ousted in the semifinals in her bid for the WTA Masters 1000 title. The American tennis star, likely to be seeded No. 3 at the high-stakes tournament, will face stiff competition from the likes of No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and defending champion Iga Swiatek, who are both aiming for their season’s first title.
