Tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas expresses his unwavering support and admiration for his girlfriend, Paula Badosa, as she battles with a back injury that forced her sudden withdrawal from the Indian Wells. Tsitsipas, who’s been maintaining a strong performance on the court, continues to shine for both of them, extending his winning streak at the much-awaited Californian WTA 1000 event.
Badosa, currently ranked as world No. 10, had to step back from the prestigious tournament due to lingering back issues that have been plaguing her in recent weeks. The former champion, who had to retire from the Merida Open semi-finals a few weeks ago and miss the Eisenhower Cup mixed doubles exhibition, was disheartened by her inability to compete.
Despite her best efforts to recover in time for Indian Wells, Badosa had to make the distressing decision to pull out of the competition. Expressing her disappointment, Badosa said, “I’m very sorry to withdraw from one of my favorite tournaments. I tried until the last moment to play. I am really sad and hopefully will be back next year.”
In an enchanting show of love and support, Tsitsipas took to social media to lift his girlfriend’s spirits. On International Women’s Day, March 8, he shared a charming video of the couple during a winter vacation. His heartfelt message read, “Happy Women’s Day to every woman carving her own path, embracing her strength, and lighting up the world in her own unique way.” He also had a personalized tribute to Badosa, saying, “Keep being the force of nature you are.”
The Greek tennis sensation also shared insights into their relationship during his post-match interview after defeating Matteo Berrettini in the third round of Indian Wells. When asked about their off-court activities, Tsitsipas revealed that Badosa had taken up cooking for him. Their shared love for culinary adventures has added a new dimension to their relationship, with Tsitsipas expressing his joy saying, “I’m having a great time cooking and chatting at the same time.”
Tsitsipas, who continues his march in the tournament, is set to go against either Holger Rune or Ugo Humbert for a spot in the quarter-finals. His current seven-match winning streak indicates a promising run ahead.
In the meantime, all eyes are on Badosa as she aims to recover in time for the Miami Open scheduled later this month. The main draw of the WTA begins on March 18, and Badosa could potentially enter the tournament in the second round, thanks to a bye. Here’s hoping that this power couple will soon be back on the court together, stronger than ever.
