The Houston Texans are heading into an exciting offseason with high hopes following a surprising AFC South crown and their first playoff victory in five years.
Many of the key positions on the roster are already accounted for long-term due to some impressive drafting over the past few years, and Houston is wasting no time locking up another key member of the roster.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that the Texans and tight end Dalton Schultz have agreed on a 3-year, $36 million deal with $23.5 million guaranteed.
Sources: The #Texans have agreed to terms on a deal to keep TE Dalton Schultz in Houston. He gets a 3-year, $36M new contract with $23.5M fully guaranteed at signing. Schultz is a key weapon for CJ Stroud.

Schultz was a key weapon for rookie QB CJ Stroud and is coming off a solid year where he posted 59 catches for 635 yards and five touchdowns in his first year as a Texan.
Tight ends are a rookie’s best friend, and Houston now keeps one of the most consistently reliable players at the position in town.
Schultz has missed just four games over the past five seasons.
The move keeps Schultz out of free agency and at just 27 years old, he will be a Texan for the prime of his career.
Schultz spent five seasons with the Cowboys before coming to Houston last season and was 12th in receiving yards among tight ends last season.
He will now look to continue building chemistry with Stroud as the only major veteran contributor in this passing attack.
Schultz is a valuable presence given the youth Houston has at the wide receiver position, with Nico Collins and Tank Dell both being only 24 years old.
The Texans answered one of their biggest questions right at the beginning of the offseason and still have nearly $60 million in cap space to play with.
